Identify the substrate or mating member, loading and environment, then select the closest product family. Do not select a fastener from the product name alone: the joint the part serves, not its catalog title, determines the correct family and configuration.

Standard or custom: where should the RFQ start?

Use a standard-family route when the recognized product designation, dimensions, thread, material or property requirement and finish fully define the item. Use a custom route when the drawing controls geometry, tolerances, functional interfaces or approval criteria that a catalog designation cannot capture. Do not convert a drawing-led component into a standard item without customer engineering approval.

Safety-critical parts need drawing and approval control
